Crowdfunding is a term that is often thrown around a lot in the nonprofit world. It holds lots of weight but also can drop like a hot potato. When It comes to crowdfunding, knowing when to do a campaign is important but having the backing to do so is even more important.
What Are You Fundraising For?
When it comes to fundraising campaigns especially crowdfunding campaigns, you have to make sure that you have a clear goal in mind, as well as something tangible that your community can stand behind. “We need money” is not a clear goal.
Having A Crowd
This should be the most obvious, but for some organizations who are told to do a campaign, they might not have the “Crowd” needed. Crowdfunding is Peer-To-Peer. That means people who are involved in the organization get their friends involved and so on. If you don’t have a strong following of people connected to the organization than you might not end up raising that million dollars you want.
Ways to grow your following beforehand are easy, make sure you are active on social media, and build strong email lists using your Google Ad Grant funnels. Utilize a Facebook group and other means that you have to engage with your people to get them to support your mission.
The Right Platform
There are loads of crowdfunding platforms on the market, from GiveButter, to Charidy, and Causematch. Each offers it’s own unique tools to help you reach your goals. However, if you can’t afford the fees etc or want to do things more budget-friendly, there are many great plugins to add on to your website that can do the trick.
The Follow-Up
This is the most important part of the entire thing. If you don’t follow up with your donors right away after the conclusion of the campaign, than you might have just wasted all your time. Why? People like to feel appreciated, after all is said and done, the champagne bottles have been popped and we are all celebrating the win, we need to take the time or send out automated emails to everyone who just gave, This give you the chance to express your gratitude and get them to sign up for a recurring donation!
